A Focus on Debbie Pearl
Debbie Pearl, the owner of Paws for Effect and the founder of Dream Fetchers, joined us on set. She is the head animal handler for the film and works closely with all of the dogs on set, especially the ones from Hollywood that serve as doubles and extras for the movie. These dogs will be doing some of the scenes at the vet’s office, as well as at the hoarder’s house. Plus, some of the dogs (like Marshall!) will be having doubles for the movie from Paws for Effect. This company trains dogs (and many other types of animals) for commercials, movies, and other media-related ventures.
Debbie mirrors Cyndi, Marshall’s “mom” and the producer of Marshall the Miracle Dog. Like Cyndi, Debbie also adopted a dog left for dead, which inspired her to start her own 501(c)(3) public charity as well. This organization, called Dream Fetchers, works to bring movie-star dogs to children who are sick, underprivileged, or battling disabilities. These dogs visit schools, hospitals, and wherever they are needed to bring a smile to a child’s face. Similar to Marshall, all the dogs from Dream Fetchers are rescues, which shows these children that there is hope in bad situations. Debbie is truly an inspiration to the rescue community and serves as an example of helping those who can’t help themselves.
