Casting Announced for Marshall the Miracle Dog
Hollywood Stars and Local Talent to Appear in Upcoming Feature Film Shot in St. Louis

May 27, 2014 (St. Louis, MO) – Today, the producers of Marshall the Miracle Dog announced the cast for their upcoming feature film. The family-friendly movie, which will be filmed entirely in the metro St. Louis area, includes both big Hollywood stars and phenomenal local talent.
Inspired by a true story, Marshall the Miracle Dog shares the story of Finn, a 13-year-old boy who has become the target of bullies at his new school. Finn is feeling hopeless until he finds Marshall being held by a dog-hoarder in deplorable conditions with 60 other dogs. Finn and Marshall develop a special bond, and soon are on a journey full of adventure, humor, heartache, and – most important of all – friendship.

“We are thrilled to have such a talented cast in this heartwarming film,” said director and executive producer Jay Kanzler. “There are so many important messages in Marshall the Miracle Dog, and these performers will bring those messages to life. Plus, we are pleased to announce that nearly three-quarters of our cast is from St. Louis or has connections here.”

The film features Lucas Carroll (Noah) as Finn; Shannon Elizabeth as Finn’s single mother, Cynthia; Matthew Settle (Gossip Girl, Band of Brothers) as the veterinarian, Doc Henry; Lauren Holly (NCIS, Motive, Dumb and Dumber, Any Given Sunday) as the animal hoarder, Susan; and Sinbad (Planes, First Kid, The Sinbad Show, The Cosby Show) as Coach Penner.

Other stars include St. Louis comedian Bill Chott (Saturday Night Live, Wizards of Waverly Place) as Susan’s husband; St. Louis comedian Greg Warren (23 Minutes to Sunrise) as Assistant Coach Larry; comedian Patti Vasquez as Lynette, the waitress; St. Louis native Zach Louis (Golden Winter) as Luke the Bully; St. Louis native Haley Busch (23 Minutes to Sunrise) as Finn’s cousin Grace; and St. Louis native Nathan Eswine (The L Word) as Grace’s boyfriend, Drew. The Los Angeles-based agency Paws for Effect will be bringing trained film dogs (Marshall has chosen the role of Doggie Director and looks forward to “barking” out orders on set!)

Marshall’s story inspired a mentoring program, and many of those partners have a place in the film, including Girl Scouts of America, 4-H, and the Humane Society of Missouri. The film’s extras came from an incredible casting call at Clayton High School, attended by more than 2,000 acting hopefuls.

“This is truly a St. Louis film,” said Cyndi Willenbrock, who adopted Marshall and also serves as a producer for the movie. “One hundred percent of our investment came from the region, students from throughout the area are cast as extras, and Notifi Records owner Ira DeWitt’s great soundtrack includes St. Louis up-and-comers. There is so much talent here.”

Filming for Marshall the Miracle Dog begins on June 2 and will last through the end of the month. To arrange interviews with cast or crew, or to plan a visit to the set, please contact Brooke Foster at brooke@pelopidas.com or 314-660-3066.
